Lynda Ryan Vasiladiotis of Sewickley, Pa., passed away on Friday, March 24, 2017, at McGee Women's Hospital from complications stemming from her chemo treatment for breast cancer. At the time of her passing she was surrounded by her husband, daughter, son and daughter-in-law.
Lyn was born September 9, 1946, in Brooklyn, N.Y. to the late Eleanor and James Ryan. Lyn spent a good part of her youth in Michigan, moving back to New Jersey with her parents during her high school years. She graduated from Katharine Gibbs School in New York City and held various jobs including executive assistant to the CEO's of two major companies in the New York area. In 1974, she gave up her career to support her husband Bill's career with Westinghouse and Eaton Corporation as they moved from New York to St. Louis and then assignments in Chicago, New York, Pittsburgh, Tampa, Greenwood, S.C. and then back to Pittsburgh. She loved living in Sewickley, and in 1983, she began her main and most important career position - Mom.
She was always active in her children's lives and in the communities in which we lived-doing volunteer work at a halfway house for mentally challenged individuals, teaching art to at risk children in Chicago, Garden Club of Sewickley, Women's Auxiliary of SV Hospital, marketing chair for the Sewickley Antique Show, Child Health, Soccer Coach, PTA member, and in her spare time, doing artwork and playing bridge.
Lyn is survived by her husband, best friend and love-of-her life, Bill; her daughter, Michel of Sewickley, Pa.; her son, Luke and daughter-in-law, Lisa of Bulger, Pa.; her two grandchildren, Nicholas and Allison; her brother-in-law, Ken Manley of Steamboat Springs, Colo. Lyn was predeceased by her sister, Diane Manley.
Lyn loved life and life loved Lyn. Her ashes will be interred in Sewickley in a private family ceremony. A memorial Mass, open to all, will be celebrated in her honor at St. James Catholic Church in Sewickley later this Spring, followed by a luncheon to celebrate her life.
In lieu of flowers, Lyn would ask that you love one another with all your heart. Donations may be made, in Lyn's name, to the American Cancer Society or St. James Catholic Church of Sewickley.
