Frank Tavern Jr. Baden Frank Tavern Jr., 74, of Baden, passed away June 22, 2018, after a brief illness. He was the son of the late Frank Tavern Sr., and Marion Pietrandrea Tavern of Koppel. He graduated from Ellwood City High School and Youngstown State College. He taught Health and coached football at the North Babylon School in Long Island, New York. Frank then began his long career in law enforcement, first starting as a Beaver County detective before being hired by Baden Borough Police Department. He became Assistant Chief and later Chief of Police and retired after 27 years of service. He initiated finger printing at State Street Elementary School and he aided in designing the shoulder patch that the Baden Borough Police Officers still wear today. He donated his time with the Beaver County Chiefs of Police to qualify police officers in firearm training and qualifications. He taught at Penn State Beaver and IUP University for the police academy. He was a member of the Baden American Legion Post 641, and served with the US Army 1st Calvary Division in Vietnam. He was life member of the Fraternal Order of Police, and was an avid hunter, golfer, and bowler. He is preceded in death by his sister, Diane Obermeier He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Dee Tavern; a son, Frank Tavern III and his wife, Amber Harris, Conway; three grandchildren, who were his pride and joy, Nick, Connor and Ryley; one brother, Pat Tavern, Beaver Falls, and one sister, Mary Jane Novotny and her husband, Don, Huron, Ohio, and many nieces and nephews and loving friends. Friends will be received Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the KASPER-HAHN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 547 Eighth St., Ambridge, (724-266-2549), where a service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. The Beaver County Special Unit will be providing full military honors. Baden American Legion will do a service Tuesday at 6:15 PM.
