John S. Mark Formerly of Ambridge John S. Mark, 74, of St. Augustine, Florida, passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2019. He was the son of the late John and Kathryn (Maydak) Mark. He is survived by his fiancée, Vickie Switzer, St. Augustine, Florida; a daughter, Kimberlee (Joe) Rivello, Philadelphia; a son, Keith (Kim) Mark, Delaware; four grandchildren, Brandyn and Austine Rivello, and Kailee and Dillion Rivello; one brother, Dennis (Carol) Mark, Tampa, Florida; nephew, Scott (Sara) Mark; and a niece, Mellissa (Jim) Dicks. John was a graduate of Ambridge High School, Point Park College, and the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. John retired after many years of service from Goldsteins Funeral Home in Philadelphia, and retired to St. Augustine, Florida. Friends will be received, Friday, from 12 to 2 p.m. at the KASPER-HAHN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 547 Eighth Street, Ambridge, (724-266-2549). A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Economy Cemetery. The family requests donations be made to them Parkinson’s Foundation.

Polixeni Banes Kouvaras Moon Township God has prepared a place for Polixeni Banes Kouvaras, 46, of Moon Township, who passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2019, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born on June 19, 1973, to Peter and Emily Banes, she was a graduate of Ambridge Area High School and the University of Phoenix. She worked as a Business Manager for a Pittsburgh dental practice for 14 years, earning the respect of every dentist and patient she encountered. She had a love for decorating, interior design, and event planning, but her true love was spending time with her family and friends, especially her beloved dog “Snickers.” Polixeni was a devout Greek Orthodox Christian, and enjoyed sharing her enthusiasm of Greek culture with all. Her loving nature and faith in God will be remembered by those who cared for her. She was preceded in death by her father, Peter. Surviving are her husband, Nick, and sons, Dimitrios and Christos, all of whom she loved deeply and who gave her the motivation to fight until her last days; mother, Emily; two brothers, George P. Banes and John P. Banes of Ambridge; one sister, Lori (Vasilis) Kontoulis, Ambridge; two nieces, Evyennia and Amalia; and nephew, Yiorgo. Friends will be received on Monday, September 23, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 2930 Beaver Road, Ambridge. Additional visitation will take place at the church on Tuesday, September 24, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Economy Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Angela ‘Toolie’ Zondos Ed.D. Harmony Township Angela “Toolie” Zondos Ed.D, 86, of Harmony Twp., passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2019. She was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Mary Zondos; sister of Sonia Zondos, Harmony Twp., and the late Betty Kyriazi; sister-in-law of Ted Kyriazi; aunt of Nicholas Kyriazi and Harold Kyriazi; and dear friend of Mrs. Rita Furis and Mrs. Aria Perna; and many others. She was a 1951 graduate of Ambridge High School, and was inducted into its Hall of Honor in 2011. She obtained her B.S. degree in Health and Physical Education from Slippery Rock College in 1955, Master’s Degree from Michigan State, and Doctorate from N.Y.U. in 1991. She organized many Special Olympic events “for her love of children” at California University of Pennsylvania where she taught in the Health and Physical Education Department for 32 years. She served on the Board of Trustees of Western Center in Canonsburg, an institute for the mentally retarded. She designed and had built a Special Education playground facility in Athens, Greece. She received the Americus Emeritus Fan Award in 2005 from Cal U. She was also a past school board member of Ambridge Area Schools. Friends will be received 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the KASPER-HAHN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 547 Eighth Street, Ambridge, (724-266-2549). Trisagion service will be held on Sunday at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Additional visitation will be held Monday from 10 a.m. until time of funeral at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Ambridge. Interment will follow at Economy Cemetery.
