She knew she had dementia years ago and that her memory would fail but she kept her sense of humor and wanted people around her to feel at ease.

I'll share a funny story about my mother. It was in the early 80s and my dad had bought a Honda Civic station wagon. It had a manual 5 speed shift. I agreed to show my mother how to drive the car. Having driven a stick shift many many years ago, my mother was a little familiar with shifting she just a bit rusty. However she never drove anything that had more than three forward gears. The Honda had 5 forward gears. So we tried driving for a little while and she pulled over and said in a soft voice. I"'m only used to shifting up to 3rd gear so would it be okay if I only use the first three gears in this car? I promise I won't drive too fast." I just laughed

I could not have asked for a more wonderful mother-in-law. Anna Mae (or Annie as we called her) was a loving, caring person in every way possible. If the world was made up of people like Annie it would truly be heaven on earth. I have so many wonderful memories of her it would fill a book. It was a hard road at the end but that's not what I will choose to remember. I choose to remember the woman who always had a hug for you, a hot delicious meal on the table, and kind words to make you feel special. Rest in peace Annie. You deserve eternity in the sunshine sipping on a cup of celestial coffee.
